Washington State House Committee approves bill banning flavored e-cigarette products statewide, pending further review. Sponsored by Rep. Christine Reeves.

According to a recent report by MyNorthwest, the Consumer Protection and Business Committee of the Washington State House of Representatives has recently approved House Bill 1203, which proposes banning flavored e-cigarette products statewide.

The bill has now been referred to the House Appropriations Committee for further review. Its main sponsor, Representative Christine Reeves (D-Federal Way), stated during the vote that the bill still needs further refinement.

House Bill 1203 proposes to ban the sale, display, and promotion of flavored tobacco, nicotine, and vaping products, including those marketed with terms like "cool," "icy," "chill," or "fresh." The bill also targets so-called "entertainment vaping products," which include e-cigarette devices with interactive features such as music or video displays. The bill also mandates a statewide public awareness campaign led by the Department of Health to educate the public about the risks of flavored nicotine products. Additionally, retailers must display clear signage informing customers of the prohibition, with violators facing harsh penalties from the Alcohol and Marijuana Commission.
