2Firsts, December 5, 2025 — According to the Southern Economic Development Council (SEDC), Swedish modern oral pouch manufacturer WiJo Pouches North America has announced plans to establish its first North American production base in Lexington County, South Carolina, a move expected to generate roughly 170 local jobs.
WiJo Pouches North America is a global contract manufacturer headquartered in Sweden. According to the SEDC announcement, the company will lease a roughly 55,000-square-foot facility at 381 Burton Road in Lexington County to manufacture nicotine, caffeine and functional pouch products for distribution across the North American market.
The project is slated to begin operations in March 2026. To support the investment, relevant state and county agencies — including the South Carolina Department of Commerce and the county’s economic development office — have approved employment development tax credits.
Jerry Sweetland, North America CEO of WiJo Pouches NA, expressed appreciation for the support from South Carolina’s commerce authorities and the Lexington County economic development team, noting the company’s intention to pursue long-term growth in the region.
