According to a report by Arede on February 12, 2024, the Brazilian Federal Highway Police intercepted over 525,000 illegal e-cigarette products in the state of Paraná, accounting for over 80% of the total amount seized nationwide. This marked an increase of over 250% compared to 2023.
On July 23, 2024, the Federal Highway Police in Paraná state conducted its largest operation to date in Vitorino, seizing 129,000 illegal e-cigarettes. This comes after another major seizure of 100,000 e-cigarette products in Santa Terezinha de Itaipu in May, which was the largest seizure in the country at the time.
Due to the potential increase in demand for e-cigarettes in Brazil, a large amount of illegal goods are being loaded onto large vehicles in an attempt to bypass regulations and avoid taxes. The sale, import, and distribution of e-cigarettes are prohibited in Brazil.
