According to a report by Metro1 on January 20th, 2024, the Brazilian Federal Highway Police (PRF) confiscated over 623,000 e-cigarettes and similar devices on federal highways in Brazil. This represents a 153% increase from the 246,000 confiscated in 2023.
Among all the devices seized, the state of Paraná ranks first with 525,000 items, followed by São Paulo (41,000 items) and the southern part of Mato Grosso do Sul (30,000 items). Due to their proximity to Paraguay, these states have become major smuggling routes.
Although the sale of e-cigarettes is banned, the consumption of e-cigarettes is not regulated. In 2024, Anvisa reviewed the relevant regulations and continued to prohibit the manufacturing, importing, selling, storing, and advertising of e-cigarettes.
