According to a statement on the official website of the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service on January 2nd, authorities have recently seized a large number of illegal e-cigarette devices in enforcement operations at ports, airports, and on roadways.

On December 3rd, the Federal Tax Authority seized nearly 450,000 illegal e-cigarettes at the port of Santos. The shipment was declared as toys, tools, computer accessories, auto parts, and musical instruments. On December 9th, the Federal Revenue Service seized 5.6 tons of e-cigarettes at Guarulhos Airport, totaling 43,200 devices. The market value of the seized e-cigarettes may exceed 5 million Brazilian reais (800,000 US dollars). On November 8th, the Federal Tax Bureau, in collaboration with the Border Action Command (COD), seized 200 kilograms of e-cigarettes at a logistics company in Goiania.


In addition, the Federal Revenue Service has also suspended businesses with CNPJ (similar to a company registration number) that are selling smuggled e-cigarettes and traditional cigarettes.
