Brazil Suspends Operations of Non-Compliant Companies Starting October 26

Brazilian Federal Revenue Service announced on October 16 the suspension of CNPJs of entities involved in illegal e-cigarette activities.

On October 16, the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service announced that starting on October 26, it will suspend the tax identification numbers (CNPJ) of companies or branches engaged in illegal e-cigarette and related product commercial activities. Any entity or subsidiary engaged in commercialization, exhibition, storage, handling, or transportation of prohibited products will be immediately announced to cease operations.

The head of the tax bureau, Robinson Barreirinhas, revealed on social media X that the action marks the beginning of a "zero tolerance" policy.

The government has announced a zero-tolerance policy towards the smuggling of tobacco products (including e-cigarettes or vaporized products), which are completely banned in the country. According to Federal Tax Bureau Directive No. 2.229 released today, companies found smuggling these products will have their CNPJ immediately suspended, with the directive taking effect in 10 days.
