Cimabel and Philip Morris Benelux Joint Initiative to Prevent Youth Access to Tobacco and Vaping Products
Cimabel and Philip Morris Benelux launch initiative to prevent youth access to tobacco and vaping products in Belgium-Luxembourg.

According to Tageblatt's report on December 18th, the Belgian-Luxembourg Association of Cigarette Manufacturers, Cimabel, and the Benelux Economic Alliance of Philip Morris have jointly launched a new initiative to prevent young people from being exposed to tobacco and vaping products.

The statement emphasized that these products are "designed exclusively for adult consumers," and that "minors should stay away from these products." It also stated that tobacco consumption should be "a wise decision made by adults who are fully aware of the related risks.

Cimabel stated that this event is targeted towards retailers and consumers. The plan is to visually remind everyone of this ban at sales points, with initiatives including stickers, digital information, and reminders sent to retailers to prevent the sale of tobacco products to those under 18.

According to the 2023 annual Ilres survey on tobacco prevalence in Luxembourg, 27% of young people aged 16 to 24 said they use traditional cigarettes, compared to 24% in 2022. In 2022, the consumption rate of e-cigarettes in this age group was 21%, rising to 36% in 2023.
