According to a report by Miragenews on March 31st, the Hobsons Bay City Council in Australia has launched a pilot program for the recycling of e-cigarettes in order to reduce their impact on the environment.
The city council is encouraging residents to safely dispose of used e-cigarettes at the Altona Library or Newport Community Centre. This pilot program will continue until April 17th.
According to a waste report from the Australian Clean Organization, improper disposal of e-cigarettes is on the rise nationwide. In 2024, over 30% of survey points were found to have e-cigarette waste, an increase of nearly 8% compared to 2023.
This pilot program aims to provide clear guidelines for handling, while also recovering valuable materials from the devices, including copper, plastic, and metal.
