Drastic Decrease in Illegal Tobacco Products in Rostov Region
Illegal tobacco sales in the Rostov region have sharply declined due to intervention from federal inspection agencies and law enforcement.

According to a report from Bloknot on September 27, the illegal tobacco market in Rostov region, Russia, has been experiencing a sharp decline in its share, thanks to the intervention of federal inspection organizations and law enforcement agencies. This view was expressed by Denis Terskov, the head of the regional campaign to combat counterfeit products.

According to data from the Russian Scientific Center on combating illegal trafficking of industrial products, the share of counterfeit tobacco on the market in the Rostov region declined from 2022 to 2023. In the mid-2022, the share of illegal products in this region was 40%, but it decreased to 34.9% in the fourth quarter of 2022, and further dropped to 28.1% in the second and third quarters of 2023. Meanwhile, across Russia as a whole, illegal tobacco products accounted for 13.9%.
