Evgeny Nikolsky Appointed as JTI Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria GM

Evgeny Nikolsky appointed as new general manager of JTI in Romania, Moldova, and Bulgaria, following successful career progression.

Recently, according to a statement released by Japan Tobacco International (JTI), Evgeny Nikolsky has been appointed as the new General Manager of JTI in Romania, Moldova, and Bulgaria.

Nikolsky joined JTI in 2001 and has since advanced his career and professional skills in brand and trade marketing. In 2009, he became the country sales director. In 2014, he managed city distributors in Russia before becoming the sales director for JTI Russia. In 2016, he returned to Kazakhstan and since 2018, he has also been coordinating JTI's activities in Central Asia and Mongolia.

Niculescu expressed his excitement for the appointment, stating, "I am pleased to have the opportunity to live and work in Romania. JTI has been operating in this country for 30 years, holding over 28% market share and introducing the e-cigarette product Logic Compact in recent years.

Former CEO Mark Rock will continue to lead JTI Germany.

Russian police in Tambov have detained a man for storing and selling unmarked e-cigarettes. Over 150,000 counterfeit e-cigarettes, cartridges, and e-liquids were seized, valued at more than 126.5 million rubles (approximately USD 1.65 million). Tests revealed that the nicotine content of the seized products exceeded the levels stated on their packaging. A criminal case has been opened under Article 171.1, Part 6 of the Russian Criminal Code.

Belarus Proposes 20% Tax Increase on Vaping Products and Nicotine Items

Belarus will increase excise taxes in 2026 on vapes, liquids for electronic smoking systems, and non-tobacco nicotine products, with a proposed 20% rise aimed at aligning these rates with traditional cigarettes. Electronic smoking devices and heated tobacco systems will also be added to the list of excisable goods. Excise taxes on filtered cigarettes and heated tobacco will rise by 7% and 3% respectively.
