FDA Files Lawsuit Against Six E-Cigarette Companies for Illegal Operations
The U.S. federal government sues six e-cigarette companies, including one in Columbus, for illegal production and sale of nicotine products.

According to a report by AOL on April 27, the US federal government filed a lawsuit on Tuesday (23rd) against six e-cigarette companies (one of which is located in Columbus), accusing them or related individuals of illegally producing and selling electronic nicotine delivery system products.

 

Brian King, director of the Center for Tobacco Products at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), said, "Today's enforcement action represents a significant step by the FDA to prevent tobacco product manufacturers from breaking the law."

 

The lawsuit alleges that these companies have been producing and selling "e-cigarette nicotine delivery systems" without authorization from the FDA. Despite receiving notices requiring FDA authorization, these companies continued to act illegally. One of the Columbus-based companies mentioned in the lawsuit is Vapor Craft LLC, owned by Melissa D. Anderson.

 

Attorney Todd Swanson will represent the US government in court, Judge Clay Land will preside over the case.

A Louisiana lawmaker has introduced HB 302, which would prohibit businesses from selling vapor products within 300 feet of schools. The bill would measure the distance by a person walking on the sidewalk from the nearest point on school property to the nearest point of the business. It would also give the commissioner authority to modify how the distance is calculated, while maintaining the 300-foot limit.

Philip Morris International reported full-year 2025 results on February 6, with smoke-free products accounting for 41.5% of adjusted net revenues, up from 38.7% a year earlier. Total net revenues rose 7.3% to $40.65 billion, while shipment volumes increased 1.4%, widening the gap between revenue and volume growth. Cigarette shipments declined as smoke-free volumes rose 12.8%, driven by heated tobacco, oral nicotine and e-vapor products. Results were released alongside a 9:00 a.m. EST webcast.
