
Authorities in Hanoi, Vietnam are continuing to crack down on sales points suspected of smuggling e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products, according to Anninhthudo reported on December 1st.
According to the Quality Management and Testing Department (QLTT), since early November, the agency has investigated 7 cases involving e-cigarettes, with a total fine of 11.25 billion Vietnamese dong ($4,500) imposed. Additionally, 606 disposable e-cigarettes and their accessories have been confiscated and destroyed, with a total value of over 16.6 billion Vietnamese dong ($6,500).
On November 13th, authorities conducted an inspection at a business and found 80 e-cigarette products being sold, including 50 disposable e-cigarette devices and 30 bottles of e-cigarette liquid. These products were all imported goods without documentation and were deemed to be smuggled items.
On the same day, another merchant was also found to have a similar situation and had 70 pieces of smuggled goods temporarily confiscated. These goods included 50 disposable e-cigarette devices and 20 bottles of e-cigarette liquid.
On the 14th, authorities continued their operations and seized a total of 420 units of e-cigarette products without proper documentation. All seized products were foreign-made and lacked proper documentation. The case is currently under further investigation and processing.
