Illegal E-cigarettes and Cigarettes Lead to Shop Closure in Liverpool

Two Liverpool stores closed for selling over £10,000 worth of illegal e-cigarettes and cigarettes, part of Operation Delilah crackdown.

According to a report from the Liverpool Echo on June 11th, two stores in Liverpool, UK were closed down for selling illegal e-cigarettes and cigarettes worth over £10,000.

In a targeted operation, the alcohol and tobacco department of Liverpool City Council teamed up with Merseyside Police to seize a large quantity of illegal e-cigarette products and counterfeit cigarettes. Two additional shops in Old Swan and Tuebrook have been shut down for selling prohibited goods.

This action is part of "Operation Delilah," a continuous effort by the local government to shut down local businesses and crack down on illegal transactions. Earlier this month, authorities seized goods worth over £9,000 at four locations, including counterfeit electronics and illegal cigarettes.

Our crackdown on illegal e-cigarettes sends a clear message to other retailers in the city who sell illicit products. While legitimate e-cigarette products still offer a viable option for those looking to quit smoking, our guidance remains that these products should always be purchased from reputable retailers and if you have not started smoking, do not start using e-cigarettes.

This year, authorities have seized over £200,000 worth of illegal e-cigarettes. In April of this year, the public protection team confiscated over 3,500 illegal e-cigarettes from a location on London Road, with a total value of £40,000.
