JTI and Cambodian Environment Ministry Sign MoU for Cooperation
JTI signs MoU with Cambodian Environment Ministry for enhanced collaboration in environmental protection and sustainable development.

According to a report by Khmertimeskh on June 28th, Japan Tobacco International (JTI) Cambodia has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Cambodian Ministry of Environment to authorize better cooperation between JTI and the ministry in environmental protection and sustainable development in Cambodia. In addition, JTI has also donated 33 cargo tricycles to the Ministry of Environment to support clean environment initiatives.

The signing ceremony took place on June 27, 2024 at the Ministry of Environment. Those in attendance included His Excellency Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment of Cambodia, His Excellency Ueno Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, as well as the Secretary of State, Deputy Secretary of State, Director General of the Ministry of Environment, and representatives from national and international organizations partnering with JTI.

 

Mr. Roy Manalili, General Manager of JTI, expressed his thoughts on the collaboration by stating,

 

We are honored to collaborate with the Ministry of Environment on this agreement, which reflects our shared commitment to environmental protection, sustainable development, and poverty alleviation. It aligns with JTI's values, allowing the company to make a tangible impact on society and the environment, creating meaningful moments for individuals and communities, while striving for a brighter future in Cambodia.

A new Swedish study found oral mucosal lesions in 79% of examined nicotine pouch users and 89% of tobacco-derived snus users, with different tissue-response patterns between the two categories. For manufacturers and regulators, the findings shift attention toward product formulation, flavouring, pouch materials and local oral exposure, not only whether a product contains tobacco. The study found no higher prevalence of caries or periodontal disease, but it could not establish causality, long-term outcomes or differences between individual products or designs.
