2Firsts, November 28, 2025 — According to romania-insider, JTI announced on November 27 that it will build a new state-of-the-art factory in Ștefăneștii de Jos, Ilfov County, to replace its current Bucharest facility. Completion is planned for 2027, and ground works are expected to begin in the coming weeks.
JTI Senior Vice President for Global Supply Chain Philip Livingston said the company continues to seek ways to optimize its manufacturing footprint.
The report notes that the existing factory exports about 75% of its output to over 70 countries. Factory Lead Klaus-Walter Thul said JTI has expanded its Romanian operations multiple times since launching in 1994.
Over the years, the company has invested in modernizing its operations, including EUR 25 million in 2012 and a EUR 60 million program launched in 2021. Today, more than 630 people work at the Bucharest factory, with over 1,500 employees nationwide.
