JTI to Increase Turkey Factory Output to 54B Units, Plans $40M Investment to Boost Capacity
JTI to invest $40 million in Turkey's Torbalı plant over the next 3 years for production capacity and sustainability.

According to a report from Merhabahaber on November 10th, Japan Tobacco International (JTI) is planning to invest an additional $40 million in its factory in Torbali, Turkey over the next 3 years, with the aim of increasing production capacity and achieving sustainable development.


JTI's Engineering Director in Turkey, Barış Tevattepe, explained that the Torbali factory is the third largest in the global JTI network, currently producing 53 billion units per year. Additionally, the company plans to invest $40 million over the next three years to build new tobacco processing facilities in order to achieve sustainability goals.


Sarper Ege Ulukaya, the production director of JTI Turkey, mentioned that the factory is expected to reach a record high production output this year, producing a total of 540 billion items, with 28% being exported.


Zeynep Öztürk, the Director of Corporate Relations and Communications for JTI Turkey, mentioned that JTI employs 46,000 people in 128 countries, with 3 companies operating in Turkey covering production, marketing, and tobacco fields. The company exports products to 56 countries on 5 continents and sells them in 132,000 retail points domestically. Since 1993, JTI's total export amount has reached $3.3 billion, with special consumption tax payments of $2.4 billion last year. Additionally, from 2012 to 2023, the company has significantly reduced waste, water consumption, and carbon emissions through various measures. JTI's top investment priority is in its people, continuously winning "Best Employer" awards over the years and implementing projects to enhance employee well-being. They also focus on social responsibility projects such as entrepreneurship and vocational education for marginalized groups.
