Massive E-cigarette Smuggling Bust in Thailand Worth $5 million
Thai authorities seize nearly 400,000 smuggled e-cigarettes and accessories worth over $4.8 million in mafia-controlled port.

According to a report by News.ch7 on September 19th, Thai customs, Central Investigation Bureau police, and officials from the Ministry of Health conducted a raid on shipping containers at a port in Nakhon Phanom province. They seized a large quantity of smuggled e-cigarettes, e-cigarette accessories, and e-cigarette-liquid, totaling nearly 400,000 items with a value exceeding 1.6 billion Thai Baht (approximately 480 million USD).


Authorities have stated that relevant departments will expand the scope of the investigation to track down any illegal storage warehouses that may exist in the provinces of North Lumbago and Bantonni.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized 11 ZYN ULTRA nicotine pouch products made by Swedish Match USA through the premarket tobacco product application pathway on August 21, 2026. Ten of the authorized products have a labeled nicotine content of 9 mg, while ZYN ULTRA Smooth was authorized at 11 mg. The reviews were conducted through FDA’s nicotine pouch PMTA pilot program. FDA has now authorized 43 nicotine pouch products, including 23 through the pilot.

On July 23, 2026, the U.S. House of Representatives passed its version of the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which includes Section 707 provisions requiring the Department of Defense to evaluate tobacco use and nicotine alternatives among military personnel. The pilot program would examine products including vapes, nicotine pouches and heated tobacco products, primarily among active-duty service members who continue using combustible tobacco. The provision is a policy evaluation effort, not an authorization for military vaping promotion or a ban on vape products.
