Major Cigarette and E-cigarette Bust in Phuket, Thailand
Phuket police arrest two women for illegal cigarette and e-liquid sales, seizing cash and contraband worth over $13,000.

According to The Phuket News, on July 27, the Phuket City police arrested two women in a raid.


The police seized a total of 487 packets of untaxed cigarettes and 64 packets of e-cigarette liquid, as well as 4840 Thai Baht (134.79 US dollars) in cash.


According to the ledger seized during the raid, these two women recorded illegal sales totaling 582,515 Thai Baht (16223.11 USD) over the past three months: 239,265 Thai Baht (6663.56 USD) in May, 185,755 Thai Baht (5173.30 USD) in June, and 157,495 Thai Baht (4386.25 USD) in July.


According to police reports, two women were taken to Phuket City Police Station and charged with possession and sale of untaxed goods in violation of sections 203 and 204 of the 2017 Consumption Tax Act.


They were also charged with handling and selling smuggled goods in violation of Articles 242 and 246 of the 2017 Customs Law.

According to convenience retail publication CStore Decisions, U.S. convenience store tobacco categories are undergoing a structural shift. Based on Circana OmniMarket Total U.S. Convenience data for the 52 weeks ending June 14, 2026, cigarettes remained the largest category with $50.8 billion in sales, but unit sales declined 5.3%.
