According to WKBN on July 9, Ohio Attorney General David Yost has filed complaints against three e-cigarette stores, with the possibility of more stores being added to the list in the future.
Orrville Tobacco and Vape Shop in Orrville, Central Tobacco in Delaware, and Elev8 Smoke Shop in Cincinnati have been accused of continuing to sell illegal flavored e-cigarettes despite receiving warning letters.
Joseph stated that illegal e-cigarette devices are flooding communities in Ohio, impacting young people. He mentioned that sometimes these pods contain formaldehyde, a known carcinogen.
You have no idea what is in those pods, this is a consumer protection issue, especially when it comes to adolescents who are still developing. The unregulated, unauthorized e-cigarettes on the market are a real danger.
According to federal law, all new tobacco products (including e-cigarettes) must obtain premarket authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before being sold in the United States.
The FDA has only authorized 27 types of e-cigarette products, all of which are tobacco or mint flavored. Any e-cigarette products not authorized by the FDA are illegal.
