Petition to Save Disposable E-cigarettes and Fruit Flavors
UKVIA urges smokers, e-cigarette users, and industry professionals to petition against UK government banning disposable and fruit-flavored e-cigarettes.

In recent days, according to an announcement on the official website of the UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA), the organization is making an unprecedented call for smokers, e-cigarette users, and stakeholders in the industry nationwide to unite and launch a petition. The aim is to urge the UK government not to ban the sale of disposable e-cigarettes and e-cigarettes with fruit flavors.

The commencement of this petition campaign is closely tied to the ongoing public consultation on the issue of youth e-cigarette usage. The open consultation will conclude on December 6th.

This petition reveals to the general public the potentially severe public health consequences of "excessive and counterproductive legislation" that could undermine the effectiveness of e-cigarettes as a smoking cessation tool. It warns that blocking access to fruit-flavored e-cigarettes and disposable e-cigarettes could deter adult smokers from transitioning to e-cigarettes, as the majority of smokers who want to quit depend on these flavors and disposable options.

In light of this, the UK e-cigarette industry association is currently engaging directly with its members, advocacy groups such as WeVape, and online communities with over 100,000 adult e-cigarette users, urging them to take immediate action to boycott. The association is also actively promoting its cause on social media platforms, aiming to increase the number of petition signatures to the fullest extent possible. Moreover, real-life testimonies are being shared to illustrate how e-cigarettes have helped individuals quit smoking and enhance their quality of life.

John Dunne, the General Secretary of the Association, stated that "banning heavyweight e-cigarettes and flavored e-cigarettes could potentially be the most severe setback to public health in this century, and may even set back the progress towards smoke-free environments by several years.

He emphasized the importance of not allowing these products to fall into the hands of minors and preventing teenagers from being exposed to e-cigarettes. However, it must not be at the expense of sacrificing the possibility of adult smokers quitting cigarettes.

Furthermore, Deng En also expressed that if the ban on disposable products or fruit-flavored e-cigarettes is implemented, it could potentially fuel a rapid increase in black market sales, providing an economic source for criminals and potentially giving rise to unregulated and potentially hazardous illegal products. Similar situations have already been witnessed in countries like Australia.

To this end, the association has specifically initiated this petition campaign to provide a platform for millions of adult individuals who have successfully quit smoking through disposable e-cigarettes and fruit-flavored e-cigarettes to have a voice.

The new petition initiative is part of the "Save Vaping, Save Lives" campaign, which also includes providing information to association members, encouraging and mobilizing e-cigarette users to participate in government consultations on youth e-cigarette use. Further details about the "Save Vaping, Save Lives" campaign and the petition can be found on the official website of the UK E-Cigarette industry association.
