Successful Interception of Large-Scale Cigarette Smuggling in Russia

Russian security forces have foiled a major smuggling operation transporting half a million packets of counterfeit cigarettes.

According to a report from Russian media outlet news-life on January 11, a major smuggling operation involving counterfeit cigarettes was recently intercepted on the federal highway M-4 "Don" in the Rostov region of Russia. Federal Security Service agents successfully halted the transportation of 500,000 illegal cigarette packs into the area. This information was released by the regional office of the Federal Security Service.

The law enforcement officers not only successfully identified the assailant but also uncovered the mastermind behind the crime. They will face criminal charges.

In the Chertkovsky and Millerovsky regions, a conduit facilitating the delivery of a large quantity of unmarked counterfeit cigarettes into the area has been targeted," stated the agency's press office.

Law enforcement authorities are currently in the process of identifying which stores have been selling counterfeit cigarettes. Retailers involved in these sales will also face legal consequences.

This is not the law enforcement agency's first successful crackdown on channels smuggling illegal tobacco to the Rostov region.
