Rise of E-Cigarette Culture Among Vietnamese High School Students

High school students in Hanoi, Vietnam gather in a tea shop daily to indulge in e-cigarette smoking, raising concerns among parents and educators.

According to a report by Vietnamese media outlet Dan Viet on November 29th, a tea shop in Hanoi's Yangchun District has become a gathering place for high school students and their e-cigarettes. With scenes of students surrounded by smoke, it seems that e-cigarettes have become an indispensable "treasure" for them.

They are passionate about trying different flavors of e-liquid to enhance their smoking experience.

Students primarily acquire e-cigarettes through online shopping, with prices starting at 150,000 Vietnamese dong. The purchasing process is convenient, as sellers hardly impose any age restrictions. Deliveries are made directly to their doorstep, with the product name concealed. Despite the widespread belief among students that e-cigarettes are harmless, research suggests they may potentially lead to cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.

Although smoking is prohibited in schools, students still indulge outside the school premises. Parents are concerned about the prevalence of e-cigarettes and are calling for more extensive publicity and regulation regarding their potential dangers.
