Warning to Shop Owners: Fake Cigarettes Worth £9500 Seized

Police and trading standards warn shop owners after seizing over £9500 worth of counterfeit cigarettes in Lancashire.

According to the Lancashire Telegraph on April 30th, police and trading standards officers have warned shop owners that counterfeit cigarettes seized from multiple stores are worth over £9,500. The police in Heywood conducted a "day of action" in the Hanky Park area on April 25th, in collaboration with partner agencies, aimed at addressing criminal activity and anti-social behavior in the area.

In several stores, the police and trading standards authority discovered three hidden facilities purposely designed to conceal illegal activities.

A police spokesperson stated: "We found contraband in all the stores visited, including 966 packs of cigarettes, a batch of loose cigarettes, and a large quantity of e-cigarettes, with a total value exceeding £9500."

The illegal trading of these products is very common, with some unscrupulous retailers intentionally selling banned items, often to children. Cheap counterfeit cigarettes entice children to smoke, and the sale of illegal products affects legitimate businesses and the health of our community, the police said.
