Brazilian Senate Committee votes on e-cigarette sales and usage, proposal to be debated in full session if approved.

According to Headtopics on July 9th, the Brazilian Senate's Committee on Economic Affairs voted on Tuesday (9th) on a project that would allow the sale and use of e-cigarettes. If the proposal passes the committee vote, it will need to be debated in a full Senate session before moving to the House of Representatives.

In April, the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) unanimously approved the ban on e-cigarettes that has been in place since 2009. However, e-cigarettes are still easily accessible for purchase in stores and online. A report from the agency indicated that the nicotine content in e-cigarettes may be up to 20 times higher than traditional cigarettes.

For online sales, buyers must provide proof of age documentation upon receiving the product. Advertisements must not contain symbols or characters that appeal to those under 18, nor associate their consumption with candy and desserts.
