Four Stores in Lincolnshire Closed for Illegal Cigarette Sales
Four shops in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England, have been shut down for illegal cigarette and e-cigarette sales, authorities discovered.

According to a report from the BBC on May 21st, four shops in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England were closed down for illegally selling cigarettes and e-cigarettes.

 

The local police and officials from Lincolnshire Trading Standards have closed four shops in Grantham after illegal cigarettes and e-cigarettes were found in hidden compartments. The European Food Store and Biedronka on Wharf Road, as well as Jaz Mini Market and Local Stores on Westgate, will be shut down for three months. Anyone entering the properties, except for landlords and emergency services, will face prosecution.

 

The police stated that these products were hidden behind false panels and shelves using "complex magnetic components". Officer Lee Mayfield stated, "Some disposable e-cigarettes provide 9,000 to 15,000 puffs. Typically, disposable e-cigarettes should only have around 600 puffs.

 

Currently, notices have been posted outside the four stores, explaining the reasons for their closure to the public.

From Nicotine Salts to Cocrystals: China’s Shenzhen Huabao institute explores a more stable form for sustained nicotine release
China-based Shenzhen Huabao Collaborative Innovation Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. has filed a patent application for a nicotine-ascorbic acid cocrystal, exploring a new solid-state form of nicotine. The patent proposes applications across e-liquids, heated tobacco sticks, oral tobacco, chewing tobacco and snuff. In nicotine pouch tests disclosed in the filing, cocrystal formulations showed less than a 6% decline in nicotine content after three months of accelerated storage and a release profile combining early-stage release with sustained delivery over 60 minutes. The filing reflects exploration of nicotine forms beyond conventional nicotine base and nicotine salts.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized 11 ZYN ULTRA nicotine pouch products made by Swedish Match USA through the premarket tobacco product application pathway on August 21, 2026. Ten of the authorized products have a labeled nicotine content of 9 mg, while ZYN ULTRA Smooth was authorized at 11 mg. The reviews were conducted through FDA’s nicotine pouch PMTA pilot program. FDA has now authorized 43 nicotine pouch products, including 23 through the pilot.

Applicant-generated tests reported differences in oxidation stability, in-vitro cytotoxicity and aerosol heavy-metal performance compared with selected benzoate or lactate controls. Philip Morris Japan (PMJ) has expanded the ZYN by IQOS oral tobacco pouch portfolio in Japan with four new ZYN Strong products, adding a third intensity level alongside the existing Low and Medium ranges. The Strong series first entered selected duty-free channels in Japan on July 1, 2026, before expanding to IQOS stores, the ZYN Online Store and selected tobacco retailers from August 18. The expansion increases the Japanese ZYN by IQOS lineup from eight to 12 products.
