
According to a report by Thanhnien on December 6th, the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department announced the results of inspections and actions taken in the e-cigarette market at a regular economic and social news briefing.
The Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department stated that e-cigarettes are one of the products that will be a focus of inspection and enforcement before and after the Spring Festival.
Authorities have revealed that e-cigarettes are being scatteredly sold in various districts of Ho Chi Minh City, mainly concentrated in districts 1, 3, 7, 10, Tân Bình, and Phú Nhuận. Since the beginning of the year, authorities have cracked down on 65 cases involving the sale of products without clear origins, smuggling goods, and operating shops without proper registration. They have temporarily confiscated 16,185 e-cigarette products and accessories, worth approximately 4.9 billion Vietnamese dong (19,000 USD), and issued over 1 billion Vietnamese dong (40,000 USD) in administrative fines.
To enforce the regulation banning e-cigarettes by 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Authority stated that they will develop a targeted and effective inspection plan based on market conditions, and increase efforts during peak periods.
