Illinois Allocates $24 Million for Youth Nicotine Prevention from Juul
Illinois to allocate $24 million from Juul's $4.62 billion settlement for teen nicotine prevention through Truth Initiative.

Key points:

Reconciliation Fund Allocation Clear: Illinois to Receive $ 24 Million from Juul's $ 4.62 Billion Settlement for Youth Nicotine Prevention.

Key cooperation partner: This funding will support the "Truth Initiative" organization in carrying out education and cessation programs, mainly targeting adolescent users.

Smoking cessation program support: The "EX Plan" will provide personalized support through mobile phones, the internet, and social media to increase the success rate of quitting smoking.

Official speaks out: Attorney General emphasizes that flavored e-cigarettes have a serious impact on youth, calls for continued education and intervention.

According to WCIA reports on April 16, the Illinois Attorney General's Office announced that, two years after reaching a $4.62 billion settlement with Juul Labs Inc., $24 million of the settlement will be used for youth nicotine prevention.

Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced that his office will donate the funds to the Truth Initiative organization. This organization is the largest nonprofit public health organization in the United States, dedicated to preventing youth access to nicotine and addiction, and providing resources to help young people quit or avoid starting the use of e-cigarettes.

He pointed out,

E-cigarettes continue to be popular among teenagers in Illinois, with flavored disposable e-cigarette products dominating the national market. The sale of these products is a concern both at the state and national levels. I appreciate the "Truth Initiative" for educating young people in Illinois about the dangers of e-cigarettes, and empowering them to live healthier lives through their EX program.

The EX program, set to launch in 2008, is believed by Raoul to increase the chances of teenagers quitting nicotine by 40% through personalized digital quit smoking support. It will be accessible through mobile phones, the internet, and social media.

CEO of the Truth Initiative, Kathy Crosby, said that

The settlement reached with Juul provides us with a significant opportunity to use funding for evidence-based programs to help young people quit e-cigarettes and prevent future addiction. We commend Attorney General Raoul for his strong leadership in addressing the youth e-cigarette crisis, as well as his commitment to strategically guiding the settlement funds to maximize their impact. We are honored to partner with the Illinois Attorney General to collectively end the epidemic of youth e-cigarette use and create a healthier, smoke-free future.
