India Cracks down on E-cigarette Sales to Curb Teen Addiction
Indian government enforces strict crackdown on e-cigarette sales to curb youth addiction, police nationwide instructed to take action.

According to Patrika on July 29, the Indian government has decided to enforce strict regulations on e-cigarettes in order to curb the spread of drug addiction among young people.

Currently, all police chiefs in the region have received directives from the central command and have been informed of the relevant guidance policies.

The Indian government has officially banned the sale of e-cigarettes and their online purchase. All police stations have been instructed to take strict action if they find any cases of e-cigarette sales. Additionally, courier companies have also been directed to cease taking orders and deliveries of e-cigarettes.

Currently, e-cigarettes are still being illegally sold on the market, including e-cigarette pens, e-cigarette pipes, electronic hookahs, and electronic cigars. These products range in price from cheap to expensive and are quickly gaining popularity among young people. Despite being banned, the sale of e-cigarettes continues to persist. In response to this issue, the state government has issued a notice to all regions, stating that police will take strict measures against illegal sellers.

North district police chief Jitendra Kumar Srivastava has instructed all police stations to prevent the online delivery and in-store sales of e-cigarettes. Strict measures will be taken against the sale of e-cigarettes.

According to reports, on September 18, 2019, Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that India will completely ban the production, import, export, sale, and advertising of e-cigarettes.
