Indian Tax Authorities Arrest Man for Smuggling Banned E-cigarettes
Indian DRI arrests man for smuggling banned e-cigarettes, seizing $149,000 worth of UWELL brand products in Jaipur.

According to a recent report from The Times of India, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Jaipur, India, has arrested a man suspected of selling smuggled e-cigarettes banned in India.

DRI also seized 8,500 e-cigarettes with a market value of 125 million Rupees (1.49 million dollars).


The media reported that the DRI also intercepted 8,500 e-cigarettes with a market value of 125 million rupees (1.49 million USD). The e-cigarettes were of the brand UWELL.


The department launched a surprise inspection starting on Wednesday, the 24th, and continuing until Thursday, the 25th, uncovering individuals smuggling e-cigarettes from locations such as China, Hong Kong, and Dubai.


A senior official from the Department of Revenue Intelligence stated that,


After a surprise inspection, our team arrested a man named Sunil Kumar Sharma, who was involved in selling e-cigarettes online and delivering them to specific customers' doorsteps. They were accepting payments through multiple accounts belonging to other individuals.


DRI officials stated that this is the largest e-cigarette seizure case in the history of Jaipur. Currently, the case is under further investigation.
