Kazakhstan Prosecutes Illegal E-cigarette Importation and Sales Case
Kazakhstan prosecutorial approval triggers rapid pre-trial investigation into illegal e-cigarette import, sales, distribution case.

According to Bizmedia KZ on September 17th, the prosecutor's office in Kostanay region, Kazakhstan has approved a fast-track pre-trial investigation agreement for a case involving illegal import, sale, and distribution of e-cigarettes.


On the 17th, the Costa Rican prosecutor's office handed over the case of illegal import and sale of e-cigarettes to the court for speedy trial.


According to staff from the state's Department of Economic Investigations, the suspect created a channel on the "Telegram" platform to sell e-cigarettes smuggled illegally from Russia. During a search of the suspect's residence, law enforcement officials seized a total of 7,498 of these products.


According to Article 301-1, parts 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the illegal import, sale, and distribution of e-cigarettes could result in a maximum sentence of two years in prison and confiscation of any illegally obtained assets.

According to The Maritime Executive on August 19, 2026, the Australian Border Force (ABF) and China’s Anti-Smuggling Bureau of General Administration of China Customs worked together to dismantle an international illicit tobacco smuggling network targeting Australia. According to information released by ABF on August 20, sustained information sharing and cooperation led to investigations into 112 shipping containers, with 91 found to contain illicit tobacco. Authorities seized more than 60 million cigarettes and 60 kilograms of loose-leaf tobacco, representing more than A$92 million in unpaid duties. More than 60 people suspected of involvement in the network were arrested in China.
