Malaysia to Refine Vape Regulations for Nationwide Standard
Malaysia's Local Government Minister announced plans to collaborate with the Health Ministry to refine vape regulations and push for nationwide standards. This follows a suggestion by the Sultan of Pahang to impose a complete ban on vapes to address youth substance abuse issues.

The ban on vape and electronic cigarette sales will be discussed with the Health Ministry, says the Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, the Star reported on November 24th.

 

"If we can reach an agreement, we will enforce this in all local governments (PBT) throughout the country," he said after officiating at the 2024 New Village Expo.

 

Previously, Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad announced on November 19th that the government will continue to regulate the use of e-cigarettes through the Public Health (Control of Tobacco Products) Regulations 2024, which came into effect on October 1st. However, the government has no intention to implement a nationwide ban on e-cigarettes, and the final decision will depend on each state government.

 

On November 18, the Sultan of Pahang proposed a complete ban on the use of e-cigarettes. Sultan Abdullah based his suggestion on statistics from the National Anti-Drugs Agency, pointing out the increasing problem of drug abuse, especially among teenagers in the region. 

 

He believes that the use of e-cigarettes is one of the direct or indirect causes of young people developing addiction, and he urged the government to completely ban e-cigarettes due to their harmful effects on health.
