Philip Morris Korea launches 'TEREA Black Ruby' to expand IQOS line to 18 varieties
PMI Korea introduces new pod "TEREA Black Ruby" for IQOS ILUMA, expanding "TEREA" series to 8 special blend flavors.

Philip Morris International (PMI) Korea has announced the launch of a new pod called "TEREA Black Ruby" for its "IQOS ILUMA" heated tobacco product (HTP) device, according to a report by N.News on 24 October.

 

The new product can be purchased at IQOS official stores nationwide, as well as convenience stores in some areas, including Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi and Busan. The company said that the launch of this new product brings the total number of special blend flavours in the TEREA" range to 8.

 

The entire "TEREA" line now includes a total of 18 products, including 8 special blends, 6 tobacco blends and 4 fresh blends.

From Nicotine Salts to Cocrystals: China’s Shenzhen Huabao institute explores a more stable form for sustained nicotine release
China-based Shenzhen Huabao Collaborative Innovation Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. has filed a patent application for a nicotine-ascorbic acid cocrystal, exploring a new solid-state form of nicotine. The patent proposes applications across e-liquids, heated tobacco sticks, oral tobacco, chewing tobacco and snuff. In nicotine pouch tests disclosed in the filing, cocrystal formulations showed less than a 6% decline in nicotine content after three months of accelerated storage and a release profile combining early-stage release with sustained delivery over 60 minutes. The filing reflects exploration of nicotine forms beyond conventional nicotine base and nicotine salts.

On July 23, 2026, the U.S. House of Representatives passed its version of the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which includes Section 707 provisions requiring the Department of Defense to evaluate tobacco use and nicotine alternatives among military personnel. The pilot program would examine products including vapes, nicotine pouches and heated tobacco products, primarily among active-duty service members who continue using combustible tobacco. JTI Research Finds 31% of UK Respondents Offered Illicit Tobacco, While 63% of Ennis Packs Lack Duty Marks
Multiple JTI-backed studies in the UK and Ireland indicate that illicit tobacco remains visible across consumer interactions and local markets. In the UK, JTI research found that 31% of respondents said they had been offered illicit tobacco products. In Ireland’s Ennis area, a JTI-commissioned empty pack survey found that 63% of sampled cigarette packs did not carry Irish duty-paid markings. The findings come from industry research rather than official government estimates of illicit tobacco market size, but highlight continued concerns among regulators, legitimate retailers and tobacco companies over illicit trade.
