According to a report by the Omani media outlet Omanobserver, Salim bin Ali al-Hakamani, Chairman of the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) of Oman, recently issued Decision 756/2023, which prohibits the circulation of e-cigarettes, hookahs, and their accessories.
The resolution also mentions penalties for those who violate the decision, including an administrative fine not exceeding 1000 Omani rials (approximately 2600 US dollars).
If there are repeated violations, the fines will double. If the violations persist, a daily administrative fine of 50 Omani rials will be imposed on the offender, not exceeding a total of 2000 Omani rials.
The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in Oman will destroy confiscated e-cigarettes, hookahs, and their accessories.
In a previous decision, the regulation 698/2015 was issued to prohibit the circulation of e-cigarettes and hookah. The penalty amount was set at 500 OMR. However, in the latest decision, the fine has been increased to 1000 OMR. Additionally, in cases of repeated violations, the penalty amount will be reduced from the original 100 OMR to 50 OMR.
