Over a Thousand Illegal E-cigarette Products Seized in Merseyside
Over 1,000 illegal e-cigarette products were seized from shops in Merseyside, UK during a joint operation by local police and trading standards.

According to a report by the British media outlet liverpoolecho on December 7th, over a thousand illegal e-cigarette products were discovered in shops in certain areas of Merseyside, England.

 

In a joint operation, Merseyside Police teamed up with Knowsley Trading Standards to conduct a covert investigation into several shops in Kirkby. During a day-long operation, a total of 1,129 e-cigarette products were seized, which were found to be in violation of Regulation 36 of the 2016 Tobacco and Related Products Regulations.

 

According to UK law, the nicotine content in disposable e-cigarettes must not exceed 2% (20mg/ml), and their capacity must not exceed 2 milliliters, allowing for approximately 600 puffs.

 

In addition, these products can only be sold to individuals over the age of 18. Photos released by the police show that the confiscated e-cigarettes were packed in several bags.

China’s vape-related exports reached $1.047 billion in July 2026, up 16.5% year on year and the highest monthly total of the year. Growth was heavily concentrated in the U.S., where exports jumped 53.5% to $404 million and accounted for 94.9% of the overall increase. Exports to all other markets rose just 1.2%. By category, nicotine-containing non-combustible products—primarily vapes—under HS24041200 rose 24.7% and generated 95.5% of the total increase. Vape-device exports under HS85434000 fell 0.4%, while other nicotine-substitute products under HS24041990 grew 88.9% but remained comparatively small.

U.S. President Donald Trump has chosen White House health policy aide Heidi Overton to lead the Food and Drug Administration, Bloomberg reported, citing a person familiar with the matter. China’s vape exports showed resilience in the first half of 2026 after a short-term shock from China’s export rebate adjustment. But customs data points to more than a simple recovery: the structure of growth is changing. Vaping devices and atomization hardware emerged as the strongest growth driver, while nicotine-containing vaping products remained broadly stable. Meanwhile, nicotine substitute-related products represented by 6-methyl nicotine expanded rapidly, becoming a new category to watch for both industry and regulators. After the U.S. market went through a cycle of shortages, replenishment and inventory rebuilding in 2025, China’s vape supply chain is entering a new phase of reallocation.
