According to cuartoscuro's report on May 19th, the e-cigarette market in Peru is rapidly growing, attracting both smokers and those already dependent on tobacco products. However, due to insufficient market regulation, a "black market" has emerged with substandard e-cigarette products posing a significant threat to consumers' health.
Renowned e-cigarette company RELX warned in an interview that black market e-cigarettes are now considered "normal," posing a threat to consumer health. They urged the government to take stronger control and regulation measures to limit the spread of these devices. Additionally, the company emphasized the importance of educating consumers, combating false information, preventing the purchase of low-quality products, and providing resources for quitting smoking or transitioning to less harmful alternatives.
The company stated, "We are aware of the concerns from the Peruvian Brewing Association regarding the use of e-cigarettes by minors, and we are actively willing to responsibly address this issue.
The Retailers Association of Peru has warned that many businesses are selling e-cigarettes to minors without any regulation. Additionally, the association has criticized certain e-cigarette products for using child models and children's TV show characters as design elements, leading to children becoming their target consumer group.
RELX emphasizes that compared to traditional cigarettes, e-cigarettes involve less burning and contain fewer harmful chemicals, resulting in less damage to health. However, despite e-cigarettes being relatively safer, they are not completely harmless. As such, the company is publicly calling on the Peruvian government to implement stricter regulations to ensure the quality of these devices and prevent minors from purchasing them. At the same time, the company proposes taking measures to prevent low-quality devices from entering the market, protecting public health, and prohibiting sales to children.
