Interception of Illegal Cigarettes Smuggled from Singapore
Indonesian marine patrol successfully seizes 62.5 million illegal cigarettes smuggled from Singapore to the Riau Islands.

According to Batampos, the Indonesian Marine Patrol Team of the Sorat Detachment has successfully intercepted a shipment of illegal cigarettes smuggled from Singapore. These cigarettes were intended to be smuggled to the Liao-ne Islands. According to Ardhan, the Public Relations Officer of the Kanwil DJBC, on Tuesday (November 28th), these illegal cigarettes varied in quantity and brand, totaling 625 boxes or approximately 62.5 million illegal cigarettes.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced on May 6 that it has advanced its modernization initiative by launching Elsa 4.0, an upgraded internal AI tool, and consolidating more than 40 application and submission data sources, systems and portals into a new platform called HALO. 2Firsts has learned that France’s national health authority, the Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS), confirmed the role of e-cigarettes will be addressed in updated national smoking-cessation guidelines expected by the end of 2026. HAS said the recommendations will focus on clinical and public-health considerations, will not set technical standards for vaping products, and that current studies are insufficient to clearly assess risks and benefits across different product categories.

FDA Adds 18 Tobacco Harmful Constituents and Seeks Comment on 3 More
U.S. Food and Drug Administration published a Federal Register notice finalizing the addition of 18 constituents to the established list of Harmful and Potentially Harmful Constituents in tobacco products. With the update, the list now contains 111 constituents. FDA also proposed adding three more constituents to the list and opened a public comment period ending at 11:59 p.m. ET on May 26, 2026.
