Challenge of Keeping Students Away from Disposable E-Cigarettes in Malaysia
According to a report by Malaysia's Nanyang website on December 14, Azman, the Deputy Director-General of Operations at the Malaysian Ministry of Education, believes that children easily come into contact with disposable e-cigarettes, posing new challenges in ensuring that students stay away from smoking habits.
He said that the easy accessibility of different types of e-cigarettes is likely to pique children's interest and tempt them to try smoking e-cigarettes, presenting a significant challenge.
During a health campaign against smoking and drug abuse today, Azman addressed media inquiries about a disposable e-cigarette resembling a toy car that is available for online purchase.
He said that raising public awareness about the consequences of smoking and using e-cigarettes is the most important.
The immediate priority is to address the issue at hand and make our children aware that these habits should not be cultivated. This is why it is essential for all parties to participate collectively and work towards resolving this problem.
He pointed out that in addition to subjects like health education, school curriculum has also incorporated themes related to the bad habits of smoking and e-cigarettes. Even subjects like Malay language and science have included such information.
Promoting a healthy lifestyle campaign is an initiative by the Ministry of Education, aimed at raising awareness among Chinese people about the harmful effects of smoking and using e-cigarettes. Currently, over 10,000 schools nationwide are actively participating in this campaign, reaching a total of 5 million students across the country.
