Top e-cigarette companies focus on recycling issues.

 

Three months ago, ANDS Corporation announced the development of a disposable e-cigarette with a recycling rate of 99.29%. The device's casing is made entirely from 100% recyclable premium cardboard, and it is equipped with biodegradable silicone interfaces and components.

 

Company executives have stated that the company's objective is to achieve high recyclability of their products by utilizing recyclable materials and simple structures. They have also announced plans to introduce a 100% recyclable disposable e-cigarette by the end of this year.

 

Last month, ELFBAR also announced that the company's new product has achieved pre-automation modules and non-welding structures. The new product aims to facilitate recycling, disassembly, and waste reduction while improving recycling efficiency. Additionally, the company has introduced a plan to establish recycling points locally in the United Kingdom.

They believe this is a promising opportunity to compete with the leading e-cigarette companies.

 

A company from Guangdong, Shenzhen, that has transitioned from e-cigarette manufacturing to a branding company, has informed 2FIRSTS that they will be showcasing their environmentally-friendly new product at this year's Tobacco Exhibition in Dortmund. As the new product has not been formally announced, the company has refrained from disclosing their name and further product information in advance. However, a representative from the company revealed to 2FIRSTS that this is a modular environmental e-cigarette, which can be easily and accurately categorized for recycling in accordance with government regulations.

 

2FIRSTS noticed that in the current market, environmentally-friendly disposable e-cigarettes are primarily packaged in materials such as straw, recycled polylactic acid, and paper, with paper being the most common.

 

The head of the marketing department at the aforementioned Shenzhen company expressed to 2FIRSTS that while paper-based packaging products align with the environmental consciousness in Europe, the understanding of environmental protection extends beyond just recycling and biodegradability. Finding a balance between the appearance and environmental attributes of paper-based products is challenging, as it also requires attention to the pollution generated during the production process of raw materials. However, this does not hinder e-cigarette companies from exploring and advancing in this area.

 

He believes that the impact of various national policies on e-cigarettes is relatively clear. Therefore, only when the "forward concept + regularization of the e-cigarette industry + promotion of government policies in various countries" are in line with each other, can better results be achieved. The best fate for disposable e-cigarettes is to be recycled and reused.

 

The international market has had mixed reactions to the environmentally friendly e-cigarette.

 

2FIRSTS has investigated the attitude of European and American consumers and retailers towards disposable, environmentally friendly e-cigarettes.

 

American e-cigarette consumer Jonathon Cole expressed to 2FIRSTS on social media that the environmentally friendly disposable products developed by e-cigarette companies may not significantly change the current situation. As an example, he himself has transitioned from using disposables to using refillable cartridges. "I believe that recycling disposables is still relatively troublesome, similar to how even if disposable cups and biodegradable plastic bags are eco-friendly, using our own cups and carrying our own shopping bags is more environmentally friendly," he stated.

 

Susan King, a consumer from the UK, has a different opinion on disposable environmentally-friendly e-cigarette products. She believes that currently, compared to other types of e-cigarette products, disposable ones offer a wider range of flavors. She is confident that traditional disposable e-cigarettes will be replaced by eco-friendly disposable e-cigarettes.

 

A UK retailer, who preferred not to disclose their store name, told 2FIRSTS that the issue of environmental impact of e-cigarettes has been a long-standing concern. Regardless of any improvements made to disposable e-cigarettes for the sake of the environment, the government is still likely to impose a ban. This is not primarily due to the smoking ban, but rather because it adds another offense to e-cigarettes, with the main reason being the attraction it has on underage individuals.
