According to FOX17, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed the link between smoking and lung cancer and other serious illnesses.

According to a report by FOX17 on January 11th, the US Department of Health revealed for the first time the link between smoking and lung cancer, as well as other serious diseases.

 

Yolonda Richardson, President and CEO of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, stated that the release of this report is groundbreaking as it is the first time a comprehensive presentation of the health issues caused by tobacco smoke, tobacco products, and particularly smoking has been made.

 

She said, "This report has far-reaching implications for the United States and the world, compelling us to take the issue of tobacco consumption prevention seriously. It serves as a significant catalyst in the field of public health, bringing forth tremendous success.

 

According to data from the US Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, the smoking rate among adults has decreased by 73% since 1965, with high school student smoking rates declining by up to 90% since the 1990s. However, this is not all good news, as data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States reveals that tobacco use remains the leading preventable cause of death and disease, causing over 480,000 deaths annually and costing a staggering $240 billion in healthcare expenses.

 

Richardson emphasized the need to strengthen efforts in curbing tobacco consumption, particularly in addressing the issue of adolescent smoking. Currently, their focus primarily lies on e-cigarettes.

 

She explained that the dangers of e-cigarettes are just as severe as traditional smoking and the public needs to be sufficiently aware of this. She stated, "Most people's first exposure to tobacco products occurs at a young age, and e-cigarettes pose a significant threat to brain development. Therefore, children should not use e-cigarettes. The science is very clear, there is no room for ambiguity.

China-based Shenzhen Huabao Collaborative Innovation Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. has filed a patent application for a nicotine-ascorbic acid cocrystal, exploring a new solid-state form of nicotine. The patent proposes applications across e-liquids, heated tobacco sticks, oral tobacco, chewing tobacco and snuff. In nicotine pouch tests disclosed in the filing, cocrystal formulations showed less than a 6% decline in nicotine content after three months of accelerated storage and a release profile combining early-stage release with sustained delivery over 60 minutes. The filing reflects exploration of nicotine forms beyond conventional nicotine base and nicotine salts.
