The Surge in Confiscated E-cigarettes in Brazil: A Report
According to the latest report from Brazil's Federal Revenue Service, the seizure of e-cigarettes in the state of Santa Catarina increased by 117% in the past year.

According to a report by the Brazilian media outlet Correiodoestado on January 12th, the latest report from Brazil's Federal Revenue Bureau reveals a staggering 117% increase in the seizure of e-cigarettes in the state of South Mato Grosso over the past year.

 

The state of Mato Grosso do Sul ranks second on the national e-cigarette seizure leaderboard, only behind the state of Parana. According to reports, in 2023, Mato Grosso do Sul confiscated a total of 363,911 e-cigarettes, whereas Parana took the lead nationwide with 618,889 seizures.

 

The Brazilian Federal Revenue Agency has emphasized that e-cigarette smuggling has been steadily increasing across Brazil since 2019. Overall, within just one year (from 2022 to 2023), the number of e-cigarettes seized has increased by 25%. Nationwide, the seizure count was 1,094,622 in 2022, and it rose to 1,367,719 in 2023.

 

Of particular note is the state of Santa Catarina, where the number of e-cigarette confiscations in 2023 has increased by six times compared to 2022.

R.J. Reynolds Vapor Company Launches Flavored Vuse Pro Pods in U.S. Without FDA Marketing Authorization
R.J. Reynolds Vapor Company has begun selling four flavored Vuse Pro pods — Peach, Berry, Watermelon and Fresh Mint — in Ohio and selected other U.S. markets. According to the Vuse U.S. FAQ, Vuse Pro contains approximately 5.0% nicotine by weight, and Vuse Pro pre-filled pods are intended for use with Vuse Alto devices. Reynolds told 2Firsts that product labeling lists an e-liquid capacity of 2.0 mL per pod. The Vuse Alto Power Unit received FDA marketing authorization in 2024, while the new Vuse Pro pods themselves have not received marketing granted orders. The rollout follows the FDA’s May 2026 revision of enforcement priorities for certain unauthorized vaping products with qualifying pending applications.

China’s vape-related exports reached $1.047 billion in July 2026, up 16.5% year on year and the highest monthly total of the year. Growth was heavily concentrated in the U.S., where exports jumped 53.5% to $404 million and accounted for 94.9% of the overall increase. Exports to all other markets rose just 1.2%. By category, nicotine-containing non-combustible products—primarily vapes—under HS24041200 rose 24.7% and generated 95.5% of the total increase. Vape-device exports under HS85434000 fell 0.4%, while other nicotine-substitute products under HS24041990 grew 88.9% but remained comparatively small.

One year after the UK disposable vape ban came into force, local authorities continue to seize illegal and non-compliant vaping products. Imperial Brands has agreed to acquire 100% of Swedish modern oral nicotine company Yoik Group AB for an initial SEK515 million, equivalent to about US$53.9 million, plus a deferred payment linked to performance over the next two years. Yoik owns nicotine pouch brand Helwit, which held about 3.4% of Sweden’s modern oral nicotine market over the past 12 months. Imperial says the acquisition will more than double its existing share of the Swedish market. Helwit is also sold elsewhere in the Nordics, through European online channels and in selected UK retail outlets.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit upheld the FDA’s denial of MH Global LLC’s applications to market flavored electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS). The court ruled that FDA’s comparative-efficacy framework, which requires applicants to show that flavored products provide greater cessation or switching benefits than tobacco-flavored alternatives, is consistent with the Tobacco Control Act’s “appropriate for the protection of the public health” standard. The court also found that FDA was not required to establish the framework through notice-and-comment rulemaking.

According to Reuters, citing Bloomberg News, British tobacco company Imperial Brands PLC plans to cut thousands of jobs across the United States and Europe as part of a cost reduction and organizational restructuring effort. The announcement drew market attention to the company’s shares.
