
According to a report by Zaxid on August 14th, a Ukrainian customs official is being investigated for allegedly being involved in the smuggling of e-cigarettes.
This official has been accused of abusing their authority, resulting in a loss of approximately 1 million Grivnas (equal to $24,214 USD) to the country.
In March 2023, in Bucovina, this customs official allowed three vehicles carrying 141,000 e-cigarettes to be transported from Romania to Ukraine without proper registration.
Currently, the official involved has been informed that they are formally charged with abusing their authority, according to Article 364, Section 2 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code.
The prosecution is considering taking preventive measures against him and temporarily suspending him from his position. If convicted, the official may face up to six years in prison, be deprived of the right to hold public office for three years, and pay a fine of approximately 1.7 million hryvnias (411.65 US dollars).
