Vietnam Bans Production and Import of E-cigarettes and Tobacco Products
Vietnam Customs General Department has issued official documents to ban e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products starting in 2025.

According to VTV's report on January 5th, the Vietnam General Department of Customs has issued an official document to all provincial customs authorities based on Resolution No. 173/2024/QH15 passed on November 30, 2024. The document emphasizes that in accordance with the decision of the 15th National Assembly, starting in 2025, Vietnam will completely prohibit the production, sale, import, storage, transportation, and use of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products, as well as other harmful gases and substances to human health.

The General Administration of Customs has decreed that as of January 1, 2025, customs procedures will no longer be conducted for all imports and exports related to e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products, including the import of components and raw materials used in the production of e-cigarettes. Local customs officials have been instructed to inventory all remaining related goods in their management areas, including components, raw materials, semi-finished products, finished products, and waste materials, and to make recommendations for their disposal.

These statistical data must be submitted to the General Administration of Customs by January 10 for comprehensive consolidation and further action.

Altria Smokeable Profit Rises 2.4% as Marlboro Share Falls and U.S. Discounts Gain
Altria’s second-quarter results show a U.S. nicotine market splitting across price, product and regulation. Smokeable profit rose 2.4% as Marlboro pricing offset lower volumes, while discount brand Basic gained share among value-conscious smokers. In oral nicotine, on! PLUS expanded distribution but faced intensifying competition from ZYN and Velo. NJOY remained off the market as patent and regulatory hurdles delayed its return. The broader lesson: U.S. growth increasingly depends on price-tier strategy, retail execution, authorisation and enforcement readiness across the industry.
