Vietnam Proposes Fines for Hiding and Using E-Cigarettes
Vietnam's Health Ministry proposes fines of 1-2 million VND for hiding or using e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products.

According to a report by the PLO on January 14th, the Vietnamese Ministry of Health has proposed fines of 1 to 2 million Vietnamese dong (equivalent to $40 to $80 USD) for the hiding and use of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products.


In Vietnam, there are existing laws and penalties against the production, operation, storage, transportation, and advertising of banned products. However, there are currently no administrative measures in place for hiding and using e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products.


The Ministry of Health is currently drafting a regulation proposing a fine of 1 to 2 million Vietnamese dong (40 to 80 USD) for individuals caught "concealing" or "using" e-cigarettes or heated tobacco products. Repeat offenders will face a fine double the original amount. Additionally, violators may have their e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products confiscated.


According to reports, on November 30, 2024, the Vietnamese National Assembly passed Resolution No. 173/2024/QH15, which prohibits the production, sale, import, storage, transportation, and use of e-cigarettes, heated tobacco, and other substances harmful to health starting from 2025.
