Australian Tobacco Merchant Fined for Illegal Possession of E-cigarette Products
TGA fines Sunshine Coast tobacco merchant $37,560 for illegal possession of e-cigarette products in joint enforcement operation.

According to Mirage News on December 17th, a tobacco merchant on the Sunshine Coast in Australia was fined $37,560 by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) for allegedly illegally possessing a large quantity of e-cigarette products.

In a joint enforcement operation held on September 18 and 19, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) collaborated with the Queensland Health Department and the Queensland Police Service to execute search warrants at multiple stores. The operation resulted in the seizure of over 4,900 e-cigarettes, nearly 300 cans of nicotine pouches, and other tobacco products.

Starting from July 1, 2024, law enforcement officials have been visiting retail stores nationwide to promote the laws prohibiting the illegal sale, possession, and advertising of e-cigarette products. If any violations are found, law enforcement officials will conduct searches and confiscate illegal e-cigarettes and other non-compliant products.

The head of the Therapeutic Goods Administration and Chief Medical Officer, Professor Anthony Lawler, has issued a warning, stating that...

Individuals who supply e-cigarettes illegally in e-cigarette stores or other retail environments will face severe penalties. The TGA will continue to work with state and territory authorities to remove illegal e-cigarettes from the market and take action against individuals and businesses that violate the new laws.
