According to Band News on July 24th, the Federal Highway Police in the southwestern city of Vitorino in the state of Paraná, Brazil seized 129,000 e-cigarettes in a single operation. This is the largest quantity of e-cigarettes seized in a smuggling case in Brazil so far in 2024.
The goods were transported by a truck. When the truck driver was stopped by the police, the 30-year-old driver claimed there were no goods on the vehicle. However, during the search process, the police discovered e-cigarette products that have been banned in Brazil since 2009.
The driver will be charged with smuggling and will be sent to the federal police station in Guarapuava, Parana state. The vehicle and goods were also confiscated.
During questioning, the driver claimed that he was loading in Céu Azul in the West, and was then headed to Pato Branco.
According to the PRF, the state of Parana has the highest number of e-cigarette smuggling cases in the country.
In May of this year, the state had previously seized 100,000 e-cigarettes in Santa Terezinha de Itaipu, the second largest case of e-cigarette seizure of the year.
