According to a report by CBS on January 9th, Harrowell aims to become the latest community in the state of Maine to ban the sale of flavored tobacco.
During a public hearing held on Monday, January 8th, Harlowell discussed a proposal aimed at completely banning the sale of flavored tobacco.
During the hearing, various viewpoints were expressed regarding the proposed ban, with both proponents and opponents voicing their opinions. Opponents argued for a city-wide smoking ban to be considered, rather than just targeting specific types of tobacco. On the other hand, supporters emphasized the negative health impacts of tobacco and pointed out that flavored tobacco products are primarily aimed at attracting young people.
In the end, the ban proposal narrowly passed with a slim majority of 4 to 3. If the ban ultimately goes into effect in Harlowell City, it will join other cities and towns in the state of Maine, such as Bangor, Bar Harbor, and South Portland, in implementing similar measures to prohibit the sale of flavored tobacco.
