Arizona: Legislation Proposed to Crack down on Illegal E-cigarette Imports
Arizona's Third District Congressman Ruben Gallego introduces bill to crack down on illegal e-cigarette imports, allocating funds for FDA monitoring.

According to a report from Ruben Gallego on March 20, Representative for Arizona's 3rd district, he introduced the "E-Cigarette Import Review and Enforcement Act" to combat the large amount of illegally imported e-cigarette products coming into the United States.

This provision includes authorizing an additional $5 million in funding for the FDA to monitor and prevent the illegal import of nicotine products at ports (including international mail facilities). This includes purchasing and maintaining screening equipment, addressing personnel needs, collaborating with other federal agencies, and carrying out other activities deemed appropriate by the Food and Drug Administration.

Prior to this, over 30 state attorneys general had written to the FDA urging the government to take more action on e-cigarettes entering the United States.
