Malaysia enforces Public Health Tobacco and Smoking Control Act
8500 venues warned for violating Malaysia's Tobacco Control Act as officials crack down on smoking in public places.

According to a report from The Sun on October 6th, Malaysia has seen 8,500 establishments warned for violating the Public Health Tobacco and Smoking Products Control Act 2024 (Act 852) since it officially came into effect on October 1st. Health Minister Datuk Seri Zulkifli indicated that in the past five days, the ministry has deployed 4,481 enforcement officers for 283 special operations.

In these actions, law enforcement officers did not directly issue fines, but instead gave warnings in writing and through explanations. However, the Ministry of Health took strong action against smoking in smoke-free areas, and a total of 12 smokers were fined," said Zulkifli.

The Ministry of Health has stated that in order to reduce smoking and tobacco product use, especially the harm of e-cigarettes to young people, the 852 regulations will be implemented in phases. The first phase will take action on smoking products that resemble toys in appearance.

China’s vape exports to the U.S. reached approximately $1.58 billion in the first half of 2026, remaining broadly stable from a year earlier but still below previous growth momentum. 2Firsts’ analysis of China Customs data shows that the U.S. market has not simply returned to its previous trajectory after the enforcement shock and inventory-driven swings of 2025. Instead, export momentum is shifting across product categories. Vaping devices and atomization hardware increased 15.2% year over year, while 6-methyl nicotine-related and other nicotine substitute products surged 234.7%. Meanwhile, traditional nicotine-containing vaping products continued to face pressure.

Ohio Supreme Court Weighs Whether State Consumer Law Can Restrict Flavored Vape Sales
The Ohio Supreme Court is hearing a case involving flavored vape sales and whether state authorities can use consumer protection laws to take action against retailers selling unauthorized vape products. Ohio officials argue that selling unauthorized flavored vapes may constitute consumer deception, while retailers argue that tobacco product regulation falls under federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authority and that states cannot impose additional restrictions through consumer laws. The case could affect the scope of state-level vape regulation across the United States.
