Malaysia's Health Minister: No Need to Follow Foreign E-Cig Bans, Focus on Enforcing New Smoking Control Act
Malaysian Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad stated Malaysia has comprehensive tobacco laws, no need to copy e-cigarette bans from other countries.

According to The Star's report on October 15, Malaysian Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad stated during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur after attending the "Cik Era Chatbot" event that Malaysia has comprehensive regulations on smoking and tobacco control, and there is no need to emulate other countries' e-cigarette bans.

When asked whether Malaysia should follow Maldives in banning e-cigarettes, the minister pointed out that Malaysia should focus on the implementation and enforcement of the Public Health (Control of Tobacco Products) Regulations 2024.

We do not need to emulate any country. In the early stages of drafting this legislation, we drew on benchmarks and best practices from around the world. We now have an independent law to regulate smoking products, enforce orders, and implement necessary regulations.

You do not need to constantly seek guidance from others, as we already have our own guidance that is independent, comprehensive, and can address issues related to smoking control.
