Oxfordshire Introduces E-cigarette Product Recycling Service with Material Focus
Oxfordshire plans to introduce a new e-cigarette recycling service to prevent pollution and potential hazards from disposal.

According to reports from Oxfordshire, the county of Oxfordshire in the United Kingdom is set to launch an e-cigarette product recycling service. This service is funded by the non-profit recycling organization, Material Focus.

Oxfordshire County Council, Cherwell District Council, and Oxford City Council are planning to join forces to provide a new e-cigarette product recycling service across the county. This is aimed at preventing people from disposing of disposable e-cigarette products in regular waste bins or mixed recycling, which could potentially contaminate other recyclables and, in some cases, even lead to fires in garbage trucks or waste processing facilities.

A new Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) featuring bright pink e-cigarette bins will be installed on November 29, and collection points will also be set up at other locations.

The project is supported by Material Focus, a non-profit organization leading the electronic waste recycling movement. Material Focus has provided over £40,000 in funding to Oxfordshire, making it one of the first county councils to take the lead in e-cigarette recycling.

This funding is part of a broader initiative aimed at making it easier for 10 million UK residents to recycle their appliances.

Residents will also be informed about how and where to recycle e-cigarettes through flyers and information on HypnoCat posters. Keep an eye out for HypnoCat, an intriguing pink and furry mascot whose mission is to hypnotize local residents into recycling their e-cigarettes.

Oxfordshire County Council member Pete Sudbury has expressed his views on climate change and the environment.

We will support the ban on the sale of disposable e-cigarettes, partly due to their environmental impact, and encourage the use of reusable e-cigarettes whenever possible.

Scott Butler, Executive Director of Material Focus, stated:

We are delighted to support the 'Recycle Your E-cigarette' initiative as it will help address the pressing issue of e-cigarette waste. This project could serve as a model for other initiatives in the UK by making e-cigarette recycling easier through the provision of public collection points.

Tennessee’s “Tobacco Product Retail Licensing Act” Would Require New Licenses for Tobacco and Vapes
A newly introduced Tennessee bill, S.B. 2086, would create a statewide tobacco product retail licensing system, move oversight to the Tennessee Alcohol Commission, and impose fees and escalating penalties. The proposal also requires all tobacco product sales to occur as in-person, over-the-counter transactions at licensed locations—effectively banning direct-to-consumer shipping of cigars and potentially restricting curbside or phone-order pickup models.
